Interview with Exist in Sound

What are you working on at the moment?

Ongoing maintenance and development for Exist in Sound powered by the Unreal Engine.

What questions do you ask prospective clients?

Tell me about your game? (Genre, game play style, audio requirements) Do you have an idea for your music? (Melody, mood, instrument types) Do you need sound effects only, or sound effects and music?

What type of music do you usually work on?

Trance! The sub genre may vary but I operate within the global sphere of electronica.

What's your strongest skill?

I have a personal touch with sequencing and arrangement that I enjoy to include in songwriting.

What do you bring to a song?

I am a classically trained pianist and have a strong sense of the force with melody and song composition. I am a multi Top 100 charting Trance artist and I will bring that experience and proficiency to your project.

Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

Revolve: Ping Pong This was my first project in gaming. I was happy to facilitate the sound scheme as well as the QA involved in this mobile game currently available for iOS and Android.

Analog or digital and why?

This is up to the client but if left to myself I base this on the project requirements and what is better fitting. Quite often, certain sounds will be produced digitally while others recorded analog.

What's your 'promise' to your clients?

What you hear in your head, or visualize for your game can and will be created! Add magic to your game.

What do you like most about your job?

I enjoy providing additives to people's work. Adding sound to a game and being told "this is what I want even though I couldn't find the way to describe it" is very rewarding.

What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

Can you make all types of songs and sounds? I have so much going on in my game! Yes! The quality and musical ability of my work will be to your satisfaction. Every moment and mood you create, I'll help enhance with the right accompanying soundtrack!

What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

Working within electronic music is not a substitute for traditional music study and theory. I am a proper musician which is the foundation to my ability to produce audio.

What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

Feel free to contact me for questions related to gaming and sourcing your music and sound scheme! Kindly inform me about your game and what you are looking for to start the conversation!

If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

Technics SL1200's + Mixer (endless needle supply!) Roland Phantom Mac Pro Studio Corsair Headphones Lava Lamp

What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

I am over the 20 year mark, with about 5 years of professional production.

How would you describe your style?

I am a trance artist, although I am happy to produce tunes in any genre.

Which artist would you like to work with and why?

The audio team responsible for Fortnite because they add live concerts as in game events and are blending music and gaming and live party culture together.

Can you share one music production tip?

Create what your client wants, not what you think your client needs.

What's your typical work process?

First are introductions; A project management style meeting to discuss the client's product and the audio services requested. Second, I will draft concepts so that early on in development is our first opportunity for a client review. As selections are finalized, they are readied for import and provided to you in a manner efficient for your studio development setup.

Tell us about your studio setup.

I run Reason Studios as my primary DAW piece. In addition, I have a collection of hardware and software ready to assist in the creation of your soundtrack.

What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

I admire the project management strategies towards game development that audio professionals provide their clients. I admire Trance Artists for keeping music in gaming mature and well represented. The culture is a perfect pair.

Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

I craft Trance & Electronica Music/SFX for your video game and media projects. Entirely organic sets of music and sound concepts based on your game.
