Skan Der B
Skan Der B is a Paris-based trance DJ and emerging producer whose sound combines emotional melodies, uplifting energy and powerful dance-floor moments. Inspired by artists including Armin van Buuren, Aly & Fila and Above & Beyond, he is a resident DJ on Afterhours FM and Data Transmission Radio, where he hosts his weekly show, My Trance Music.
He is also the creator of Artist Spotlight, a monthly mix series dedicated to showcasing the productions and remixes of individual artists. Now developing his own original music, Skan Der B is focused on building a sound that is both deeply emotional and unmistakably energetic.
My Story
Tell us about a project you worked on that you are especially proud of?
I’m especially proud of my first collaboration with producer Helena Kristiansson. We’re working together on an uplifting trance track that combines emotional melodies, atmospheric elements and a powerful, energetic drop. As one of my first original productions, it has been an important learning experience and a major step towards developing my own sound.
What’s the biggest misconception about producing?
That having a good idea is enough to make a good track. The initial idea might come quickly, but turning it into a complete production requires patience, arrangement, sound selection, mixing and a lot of small decisions. Most of the work happens after the first inspiration.
How would you describe your production style?
Emotional, melodic and energetic. I like creating a contrast between atmospheric breakdowns and powerful drops. My aim is to make music that tells a story while still delivering enough energy for the dance floor.
What type of music do you usually produce?
Mainly uplifting and melodic trance, generally around 138–140 BPM. I’m especially drawn to emotional melodies, euphoric leads, driving basslines and vocals that give a track a real identity.
Analog or digital, and why?
Digital. It gives me the flexibility to experiment, change ideas quickly and work from almost anywhere. For someone developing their production skills, the possibilities and accessibility offered by digital tools are incredibly valuable.
What do you like most about electronic music?
Its ability to create a complete emotional journey without being limited by traditional structures. A track can begin in a very intimate and atmospheric way, gradually build tension and then create a powerful collective moment on the dance floor. Trance does this particularly well.
How long have you been making music?
I started DJing in late 2025 and moved into production in 2026. I’m still at the beginning of that journey, but I’m constantly learning and working seriously to develop a recognizable sound.
What’s your typical work process?
I usually begin with an emotion or a melodic idea. From there, I look for the right sounds and build the main musical identity of the track. Once the core idea works, I focus on the arrangement and energy progression before refining the transitions, sound design and mix. I also like to step away from the track and return to it later with fresh ears.
Tell us about your studio setup.
My setup is mainly digital and gives me plenty of flexibility. I work with several DAWs and a wide range of virtual instruments, synthesizers and effects plugins, including Serum. I also use carefully selected samples when they fit the track. Having different tools allows me to experiment freely while keeping my main focus on the musical idea, arrangement, sound design and overall energy.
Can you share one production tip?
Always listen to your track in context. A sound might be beautiful on its own but still not serve the arrangement. Every element should have a purpose, and sometimes removing something improves the track more than adding another layer.
What other musicians or music-production professionals inspire you?
Armin van Buuren, Aly & Fila and Above & Beyond have been major inspirations for me. I’m also inspired by artists such as Craig Connelly, Daxson, RAM and Doppenberg. I particularly admire producers who can combine deep emotion, memorable melodies and genuine dance-floor energy.
What are some upcoming events or projects you are excited about?
I’m excited about finishing my collaboration with Helena Kristiansson and continuing to develop new original productions. I’m also growing my weekly radio show, My Trance Music, which is broadcast on Data Transmission Radio and Afterhours FM.
Alongside that, I recently launched Artist Spotlight, a monthly SoundCloud series where I dedicate a full one-hour mix to the productions and remixes of a selected artist. It gives me the opportunity to highlight artists whose music inspires me and introduce their work to my audience.
